Dr John Younger
Cardiologist
Dr John Younger is a clinical cardiologist and Advanced Cardiac Imaging Specialist. He has an active interest in clinical imaging including echocardiography, stress echo and TOE, but particularly cardiac CT and cardiac MRI. He a co-author of the CSANZ position statement on calcium scoring and of the Australia and New Zealand Training guidelines for cardiac MRI.
He is the senior Cardiac Society representative on the Conjoint Committee for CT Coronary Angiography and he is the current president of the ANZ-Cardiac Magnetic Resonance group.
John is very active in cardiac CT education and he has taught on CT angiography courses for cardiologists and radiologists in Queensland, Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Singapore. His research has been published in a variety of medical journals including The BMJ, Lancet and Heart. He has written an invited editorial on cardiac CT research for the Journal of the American Cardiology of Cardiology. He is a regular speaker at national and international conferences and has acted as the scientific coordinator for several national meetings including the largest cardiology conference in the region (CSANZ Scientific Sessions).
John graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast before moving to Australia in 1997. He completed physician and cardiology training in Newcastle, NSW, before returning to the UK for 4 years further cardiology training. This included working with one of the first cardiac CT scanners installed in the UK and a 2 year fellowship in cardiac MRI at British Heart Foundation Cardiac MRI Centre, in Leeds University. Returning to Australia in 2007 he established the cardiac CT and cardiac MRI programs at RBWH (in conjunction with the Medical Imaging Dept.). John was the clinical lead in echocardiography and cardiac imaging at RBWH until 2017. He developed St Andrews a Cardiac CT service at St Andrews, including a novel scan protocol for CT-TAVI imaging and now works with a number of radiology practices.
Dr Younger is a private consultant at Suite 6.5, Level 6, St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital in Spring Hill. He is also a Senior Staff Specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and is a senior lecturer at the University of Queensland.

Cardiac Imaging services are provided at several locations. In central Brisbane cardiac testing is performed St Andrews Hospital on Level 6 or Level 1, depending upon the type of test.
In North Brisbane, cardiac CT and MRI are performed at St Vincents (Holy Spirit) North Side in Chermside, at Queensland Diagnostic Imaging (QDI) which is on the ground floor. To contact QDI call 07 3256 4011 or visit their website here .
